S/W. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Copy to:- Pn.{Mr Northey} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} X53 CWB1/GM/9-6-26. Pinking and detonation. Different engines both 20 h.p. and New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I, appear to be very variable as regards their tendency to pink or detonate. A number of cars of both types pink slightly, even when new, if the ignition is advanced more than 2/3rds of the range. In a further number of cars both types, this tendency appears to be much increased after as little as 2,000 miles running and has been a source of complaint. I have heard through various channels that, in a number of our cars, particularly New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM Is, a 20% Benzole mixture is being used which removes the trouble. In your view:- 1. Is there any harm in the use of such a mixture? 2. If there is no harm, is there any reason why we should not advise our customers of the advantages of a 20 to 25% Benzole mixture? CWB. | ||
