WEIGHT ANALYSIS AND SIMPLIFICATION
OF CHASSIS PARTS.

Complete weight analyses have now been obtained for the Oldsmobile, Bentley, Wraith Chassis, Packard front suspension and axle, Vauxhall engine and gearbox. One copy of each of these analyses will be available in the Office in the Experimental files. Two more copies will be available in the Library.

We should like all concerned to make a careful analysis of Bentley III. drawings at present proposed, to see how they are going to compare for weight and simplicity with present American practice. Any suggestions as to how designs can be improved will be immediately used because B.III. is now going to be modified for Phoenix, and Phoenix is a chassis on which we want lightness and less costly schemes.

We do not think we should let any scheme through unless it is either as simple as current American practice, or if more complicated that the additional complication can be justified by our particular requirements. At the moment we have three cwts. on the Bentley which is not found on the Oldsmobile, in spite of the fact that we use some 200 lbs. of aluminium and they use none at all.
