10,000 Miles Trial Car - 12-HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}

In reply to Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}11/EW7.12.23, paragraph 23, we are in receipt of a letter from T.B.Andre & Co.Ltd., London, dated 31st ult. as follows:-

"We are in receipt of your favour with reference to "the shock absorbers fitted to the above chassis which "we note has completed a 10,000 miles trial, and we are "very much surprised at the nature of your report which "is most unusual, and though of course a little variation "one way or another is only to be expected after such an "extensive trial, we must frankly admit that we are quite "at a loss to explain how the pressure on one of the "shock absorbers could have increased from 40 lbs to 87 lbs, "whilst the increase in pressure on the other shock "absorber was comparatively small, and practically "negligible.

"There can be only two possible reasons, either that "the adjustment has been interfered with during the period "referred to, or there is just the possibility of the "friction discs in this particular shock absorber being "defective, and we should be extremely obliged if you would "send us the shock absorbers for our examination and "further report.

"With regard to the wooden bearings being swollen and "difficult to move, this also seems strange, as the trouble, "if any, is rather the reverse, namely, that occasionally, "due to various reasons, a small amount of wear may take "place, when the bushes require renewing.

"If you can arrange to send us the two shock absorbers "above referred to, kindly let us know, when we will "immediately despatch to you a new pair to replace these "for this particular chassis.

"If we are able to determine the cause of the trouble, "we will, of course, take whatever steps may be necessary "to overcome such troubles in future, but in any case we "think that perhaps it would be a good plan if the shock "absorbers were examined, say every 5000 miles or so, which "your customers may have done at any of our Service Agents, "free of charge, when, if necessary, the pressure can be "re-adjusted and set to your standard pressure.

"Please note, however, that we are only putting this "forward as a suggestion, in order to ensure absolute "satisfaction to your customers and to conform with our
