x325 To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}17/KW.6.8.35. SpectreCodename for Phantom III Gearbox. As a result of the troubles experienced with the gearbox of SpectreCodename for Phantom III III, we are fixing up a rig in the tomb, on which we can run a SpectreCodename for Phantom III gearbox at high speed. Undoubtedly the most difficult trouble to overcome is the seizing of the 3rd speed and 1st to 3rd motion shaft bushes. One method we wish to try is shown on the attached sketch. This consists of making the bushes a press fit in the gear and cutting an oil thread in the bore and oil grooves in the end face of the rear bush. It is possible that by drilling holes from the space between the two bushes to the inside of the shaft, we can make the third speed feed oil to the inside of the shaft and thus to the 1st to 3rd motion shaft bush. Will you please detail and make as soon as possible two bushes for the 3rd speed both to be a tight fit in the gear and the one to have the oil grooves. The gearbox we are using for these experiments is No. 1-HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
