25/30 HP. Brake Pilot Shoes.

With reference to the trouble experienced with the above, we have now had a conversation with GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}, and it appears that these shoes have not been provided with a spring setting equivalent to that which was found correct originally for avoiding squeaks.

The present spring when packed up with two washers equivalent to about .1 can be made to operate satisfactorily, but GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} will measure the actual load and let us have a figure.

The other trouble which is confirmed by experience at Cricklewood is that the pilot shoes itself collapses, and is found with practically no clearance. It therefore appears that we should make these shoes out of steel forgings instead of aluminium bronze. Will you please, therefore, instruct a modified spring and shoe for experimental test.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
