Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. West.

Now that you have decided to fit the Bentley battery, our type 6-BGD9-S, to the 20/25 H.P. car, we think that it might be desirable to change over the design of the cell lid{A. J. Lidsey} and section pillars to the same as that used on the new 40/50 H.P. car battery, our type 6-BHD11-S.

The type of lid{A. J. Lidsey} we are using on the latter battery is what we call the lead insert type, and incorporates a lead insert moulded into the cell lid{A. J. Lidsey}, which is subsequently burnt to the pillar and connector. This design results in a very sound job, and entirely prevents acid leakage.

With the nutted type of joint, as used on the 6-BGD9-S battery, there is always a risk of leakage due to the nuts slacking off a bit or the rubber washers perishing, and it is becoming rather more general practice for manufacturers to adopt the new type of joint.

We enclose herewith our drawing No. A.2280 which shows the design of the lid{A. J. Lidsey} as used on the 6-BHD11-S battery, and we shall be glad to know whether you agree to the change. If we made the change we should call the battery the 6-BHD9-S to distinguish it from the older type, but in every other respect it would be identical, and we propose using it both for the Bentley and for the 20/25 chassis.

Yours faithfully,
PETO & RADFORD,
CGPritchett
