47772 WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY2/G.22.2.29. R.R. of A.{Mr Adams} INC. -------------- Referring to the papers from America forwarded for comment by Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}, in the past when changes were being made RR.A.I. dealt with them in two ways :- 1/- They sent a 'Proposal Sheet' which described the difficulty or fault, and the means suggested for its elimination. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and myself have commented on these suggestions, and said if we thought they were important enough to demand a 10,000 miles test, but the decision as to whether they should be adopted or not rested with R.{Sir Henry Royce} If R.{Sir Henry Royce} did not comment within a certain time the proposal would be adopted by RR.A.I. Under this heading serious changes were dealt with. 2/- For minor changes covering limits, machining changes &c. a copy of an alteration sheet was sent to me only as a record, but as these were not found to convey any useful information we agreed to let them drop. As to just what is the best scheme for both parties it is rather difficult to say, personally I favour Oy's suggested regular bulletin reports of troubles, and suggested remedies, but it involves, if it is to be kept alive, quick response from our side. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and myself might by an effort do what we could, but the real decision must be from R.{Sir Henry Royce} and when he is pressed so hard already one does not see how R.{Sir Henry Royce} could 'fill the bill' by replying soon enough to make RR.A.I. feel their 'reported difficulties' were being given the attention America would feel they demanded. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} P.S. I have sent Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s memo (Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}16/E14.2.29) to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} for his views.
