A second test was carried out to substantiate the above inference. The petrol tank at the commencement of the test had 10 1/4 galls. in, the petrol level being just above the top of the second cup; with this level we expected to obtain a much quicker rate of rise of liquid in the gauge. During the first 5 miles, 1 3/4 galls. was registered, during the second five miles it rose to 3 1/4 galls., reaching 7 1/2 galls. after only 25 miles. It will be remembered that in the first test it was not until after 35 miles had been covered that a reading above 1 1/3 galls. was obtained.

After 25 miles the increase became less fast, the petrol level in the tank having dropped well below the second cup and the road surface being good.
