300a To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} (For Log Book) from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}10.1.38. 35-EX. Mileage - 379. Petrol used - 36 gallons, giving a consumption of 10.5 m.p.g. Points noted on this car were - (1) Weakness in the carburetter at low speeds. (2) A large squeak in the offside rear hub when the car is hot and which vanishes with driving or braking. (3) The brakes squeak and during a stop from high speeds rumble badly. (4) The 7.50 tyres make the steering heavier and are noisy, particularly on wet roads. (5) The car runs out of petrol with the gauge still showing 4 gallons, and the warning light not having functioned. (6) The reduced clutch inertia is a noticeable improvement as regards gear changing. (7) The luggage boot is exceedingly difficult to open, and appears to collect a large quantity of water. If this carburetter is representative of what we have just standardised the mixture is not rich enough at low speeds, and the petrol consumption of 10.5 using the overdrive extensively at a moderate average speed, is too low.
