-2- We are of the opinion that the proposed radical change is premature in view of the fact particularly that the car submitted to Sales was sent primarily as an example of a speed model. In any case we assume that your criticisms are directed more against the stiffness of the spring than the actual method of control by the spring, the point at issue being the deterioration of smooth riding qualities rather than peculiarities connected with the axle control itself. In regard to the question of riding qualities this is not different to the cars which have been tested by P.N. during his visit to France, and also similar to the car which we loaned him at Easter. We suggest before condemning the system that Sales should try a limousine car or a saloon type car, which we have available at Derby. As Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} is taking the car which has been criticised by Sales to R.{Sir Henry Royce} he would like an opportunity of discussing the actual faults complained of on this car with the Sales officials. He will be in London tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon, and could, if necessary, stay with the car on Thursday morning, in order to get complete information before going to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town. | ||
