X+062 Experimental Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KT. November 27th 1933. The Earl Of Rothes, The India Tyre & Rubber Co. Ltd., Inchinnan, Scotland. Dear Rothes, Thank you for your letter of the 23rd. This clarifies the position considerably. I had difficulty in believing that cars were undrivable in wet weather in view of the large amount of running we ourselves have done. The front tyre wear is interesting, and we will investigate this. I note what you say about altering the centre of the tread, but personally we dislike small alterations if they can be avoided. They appear to be capable of upsetting the tyre characteristics, which means we have to run as many miles as though the complete pattern of the tread had been changed. I will try and get a personal conversation with Mr.Burrage to find out what is actually happening. I would rather you did not send any more tyres out to Mr.Hancock in France for the time being, as he is more or less snowed under. I think that if he has super-non-skids in addition to the Speed Specials, he will have all he can manage for the present. Yours sincerely, | ||
