( 12 ) steering joggles in straight ahead direction. Reactions on corners were complained of but were reduced to a minimum by modification to the side steering tube rear spring-loaded joint. The O.S. bump buffer failed, also the doubled coiled Bijur pipes supplying the steering pivots. Frame & Fittings. LOP. E.87513. Lec.5406. Modified Front Engine Mounting Bracket produced in S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} No trouble was experienced with these. The strip report will confirm whether they are free from cracks. Rear Springs & Fittings. LOP. F.88168. Existing, complete as follwos:- Rubber between Rear Axle & Springs. Lec.5070 Front Anchorage with rubber Shackles. Lec.5244 Rubber Bushes. Rear Shock Dampers. LOP. F.87071 - F.88036. The following new parts fitted:- N.S.4880. 4995. Mod. rubber mounting for conn. tubes. Offside with "Gaco" synthetic rubber. Rear Stabiliser. LOP. F.88037. The following new parts fitted:- N.S.4880. 4995. Mod. to rubber mounting for conn. tubes. Offside with "Gaco". Above parts replaced after 9,500 miles by special seven leaf lightened rear springs with new shackles and rubber anchorages at front end deleted. Standard damper and roll-rod connecting links fitted with necessary new parts. These ran 12,000 miles. The connecting tubes with rubber mountings for the damper and roll-rod links were entirely unsatisfactory and a constant source of trouble. Their failure prevented a true value for the rubber anchorages at the front end of the rear springs being given. The arms carrying the lower ball ends for the connecting tubes had plain holes and were pressed on to knurled shafts on the spring plates. They turned on the shafts. This method of fixing is no use here. Wear rapidly took place in the rear shackles, and (contd) | ||
