We send herewith N.Sch.4899 showing our suggestions for improving the lubrication of the rear brake camshafts. We provide two drip plugs, one for the two bearings on the carrier plate and one for the two on the bracket. We do not think that there can be any liability of the oil going to one bearing only in either of these cases. We understand from the Repair Department that, with the similar arrangement which was at first used, the trouble from lack of oil was entirely confined to the bearings at the carrier plate which were intended to be supplied down the bore of the camshafts. We have placed the drip plug for the carrier plate bearings on the bearing housing with a separate pipe. This seems to us to be the simplest and cheapest way of doing this job. Reliability is, we think, better than any other scheme we have examined. E/HDY.{William Hardy} N.Sch.4899 herewith. | ||
