Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 14th inst., regarding Oil Coolers. The charge of £5. 5s. 0d is for the Oil Cooler with the stiffened top plate to our design and we wish to inform you that we have made a charge of £5. 5s. 0d. also for the Oil Cooler to your design with the modified top plate.

We agree that these charges of course appear to be high in view of the production cost of the Oil Coolers but as explained on the telephone the work involved was all hand work of a difficult nature and necessitated alterations to our dipping frame. We were under the impression that this experimental work on the oil coolers was carried out on your suggestion as you were of the opinion that under the high test pressures distortion took place on the present type coolers. The constructions of the experimental coolers has definitely eliminated this.

We thank you for your remarks regarding the sample cooler which was sent to you for examination and which has been dipped instead of being hand soldered together. All coolers in future will be manufactured by this method and we anticipate no further trouble in service.

We note your remarks regarding an allowance for machining the top plate and before we go further we should like to have a couple of your washers for examination. On receipt of these we will notify you as to when we are commencing to manufacture coolers with this modification and will give you the number of the first cooler incorporating this.
