X.1404/6 A record has been kept of one set of four tyres, 2 rubber and 2 steel stud treads. They were used on experimental car 7CA, while on a long experimental test, driven by Crawford. The results were as follows, all tyres being 895 X 135. Special rubber tread 7437 miles on front wheel. } Neither of these covers were burst but they were worn nearly through and removed as a precaution. Steel studded tread 7437 miles on front wheel. } Special rubber tread 2922 miles on rear wheel (burst) " " " 2767 " " " " " (burst) These results are about the average one would expect and there is nothing unusual either way. Crawford complained that the tyres were unyielding and hard, causing discomfort when riding over bad roads, being noticeably worse than Dunlop or Michelin in this respect. I am inclined to agree with Crawford that there is a hardness about the tyres. They look to be of a section much smaller than their marked size and this may account for their bumpiness when compared with tyres which are nearer to their marked sizes. On the whole I see no reason to use this make of R'R' B'DY{F R Danby} (no HQ'Y'T' E-p18) O' EADY | ||
