7th July 1938.

Dear Sirs,

We refer you to the Dunlop 4.50-16" experimental disc wheels which we have in hand for the "BENTLEY III", your drawings GB.3876 & 7.

We find upon laying out a detail of the back face to the leading dimensions given on your print GB.3876, that the surface available for contact with the face of the hub, is limited to practically an interrupted line contact at the bore of the wheel, and to a small area only between the bolt hole depressions and the webs, as indicated on the enclosed print CDS.1368.

As in this design of wheel there is a tendency for the metal to thin when drawn over the corner radii, it is likely that even less bearing surface than that indicated on the print will result in actual practice. We are therefore drawing your attention to this, as we feel that trouble may be experienced later from this cause.

We would suggest, as a means of overcoming this, that the webs could safely be reduced in width without sacrificing their utility as seatings for the cap retaining springs.

In perusing this drawing, it will be noticed that we have made one or two minor modifications, notably around the bolt hole depressions, in order to bring the design into conformity with our usual practice.
