We have to-day telegraphed you: Send immediately exhaust manifold.

The manifold cracked round the front end during the morning's run and does not look as if it will last. We are having it welded and hope it will last until we can receive a new one. This trouble has been consistant on all 20-HP during the 10,000 miles test. By instructed more clearance in the stud holes for the front and rear flanges, making the central flange the locating part, but it does not look as if sufficient allowance is made for the expansion. We have also found the flange of the exhaust pipe broken right off. This is also a consistant failure on all 20-HP and each time we have advocated a turned flange of more ample dimensions welded to the pipe. Can you impress this upon By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} so that one known fault can be remedied.

The car is running very well and I might say it is as near perfection as one would wish. The faults reported are not serious and should be easily overcome.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} We have increased possible "total" sliding clearance by a further .040" approx .0875 & are distinctly likely to be bustled up before flanging. By
