43730 To EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to BJ. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG7.10.24. 40/50 HP. & 20 HP. VIBRATIONS & BODY BOOMING. X191 <crossed_out>X3730</crossed_out> <crossed_out>X3729</crossed_out> We do not believe that the 40/50 HP. and 20 HP. cars are as bad for vibrations and booming as it would appear from your memo. EF9/H2.10.24. Our impression of the difficulty, and we agree that it is a difficulty, that a small percentage of cars which we deliver are complained of with regard to some of the faults you mention. Other cars made to exactly the same designs are entirely free from these faults. It is only 12 months ago since torque reaction dampers were fitted to all cars. Everyone at that time was over-joyed with the fact that we had at last got a cure for this objectionable vibration, and there is no doubt that the torque reaction damper did reduce the vibration to a negligible degree. It was not to be expected that we should not hear of vibrations again, but your memo. gives the impression that we are much worse off now than we have ever been, in fact, it would be difficult to know which end of the chassis to start to try and overcome the multitude of complaints. The complaints being dealt with in the Expl: Dept: are :- 1. Exhaust vibrations and booming exhaust on 20 HP. 2. Comparison of improvement with body fitted on sub frame and body fixed solid to chassis - 20 HP. 3. Tests to eliminate servo gear noise - 40/50 HP. 4. Exhaust noises on 40/50 HP. If anything else is expected from the Expl: Dept: we suggest that a copy of your memo. should be sent to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
