Report on chassis 8 EX after 7,500 miles.

ENGINE.
The condition of the engine is generally good.
Oil drained from base for examination of filter. This was found to be in a clean condition. Engine base filled up with clean oil.

Power.
The engine power has remained good.

Lubrication of cylinders.
The lubrication of cylinders is normal & even.

Condition of cylinder walls.
These appear to be still in a good condition.

Valves & fittings.
Improved lubrication to tappets to Sch. 634, otherwise to L.O.P. E.72113. Improved bottom valve spring washer EX. 941. with more effective spigot for spring. Oil holes on valve end of inlet rockers plugged, but arranged to allow a very slight leak of oil.
All valves appear to be O.K. We have checked the clearance of valves between rocker arm & valve stem, & found that the six exhaust valve clearances have decreased to .001". These have been readjusted to .003". The clearance of inlet valves has not altered, i.e. .003". These clearances have been checked up whilst engine was cold. This is our usual routine. The rocker arms have functioned O.K. The lubrication is good, & the bearings are quite good.

Pistons.
Fitted with new Brice unlapped piston rings.
Examination of pistons shews them to be normally lubricated from examination inside the cylinders. There is now a fair amount of carbon on piston heads. We have not heard any definite piston knocks. We have had no signs of over-oiling during the continuation of the test, but as you will notice, the oil consumption is gradually on the increase, which may be due to the piston rings losing their scraping qualities. After 15 minutes slow running exhaust clear.

Ignition plugs. "Lodge" detachable 200 type.
We have had no trouble with plugs. They are still clean & in good condition. The plugs were examined immediately the car returned from the day's run, & were found to be quite dry.
