TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to PI. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M4.6.27. PHANTOM SIDE SPARE WHEEL CARRIER. Y8600 With reference to the question which has been under discussion for some time of providing a side carrier for use when the rear carrier is fitted, we send herewith N. scheme 2420. shewing the proposed scheme. It will be seen that the pieces are very little different from those already existing. The plate has been made smaller by using an adaptor plate in both the rear and the side positions, the wheel on the side being retained its present way round. The wheel has been raised so as to avoid the rather conspicuous empty trough when the wheel is at the back, and the step-iron has been again stiffened. We presume that it will be necessary for this to run 10,000 miles or its equivalent, and we suggest that this might be done by bumping, one side of the chassis being fitted with the original side wheel carrier, and the other with the new one.
