VICE-CHAIRMAN ENGINES BRANCH GOSFORD STREET, COVENTRY. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} SHAW, MANAGING DIRECTOR YOUR REF: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} OUR REF: WRB/RJE. 11th March, 1938. W.A.Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. - 1104 ? Dear Robotham, Many thanks for your letter of the 10th March. You say that you would like to come over to "Morris Commercial Works" on Thursday next. While we are very much looking forward to seeing you, there are two catches in this proposition. In the first place I am not directly connected with Messrs. Morris Commercial Cars Ltd., whose factory is in Birmingham. There would, of course, be no difficulty whatever in arranging for you to visit any Branch of the Morris Combine which you would like to see, but I suggest that you start with Morris Motors Engines Branch, where I enjoy the high sounding title of Chief Engineer, and where we manufacture engines and gearboxes for the whole of the Morris Companies. In any case, your mention of Morris Commercial was probably only a clerical error. The second point is that we are moving into our new factory and offices this week end, and as you can imagine, we shall hardly be in a fit state to receive visitors during next week. If you can manage it I suggest postponing your visit until about the end of this month, when we shall be able to give you our full attention. I am enclosing a plan showing the position of the new Works in Coventry, and when the time comes we shall look forward to welcoming both you and Mr.Coverley. Yours sincerely, WRBoyl | ||
