possible. It is noticed, referring to the winding
diagrams which have been previously issued, e.g. E.13768
for the standard E.R. starter motor, D.1506 and D.1512 for
the armatures for the dynamo made from starter motor parts,
that although the number of slots (which were settled by
Mr. Royce after reference to this formula) are in accordance
with the formula, the winding diagram is not as is now
required, but is made out with equal conductor pitches,
resulting in each case in progressive windings where retro-
gressive windings would be better. It will now be
necessary to alter the instructions for the 45 slot armature
to put this matter right. This does not alter the step
of the coil, but only concerns the connections and the
commutator. The manner in which this affects the already
instructed armatures for the Goshawk I dynamo and starter
motor will be dealt with in a separate note. In other
respects, the instructioning of the dynamo made from starter
motor parts stands as already given in the various notes
which have been issued.

On further thought it has now occurred to us
that Mr. Royce has definitely decided that it will not be
necessary to make up one of these machines as a plain shunt
wound machine as was previously instructed, as all the work
on the machine as a plain shunt wound machine can be carried
out making use of separate excitation on the field coil winding
suitable for third brush control as it stands instructed at
present. EPC.
