THE INSTITUTE OF PETROLEUM The Adelphi, London, W.C.2 LUBRICATION GROUP Chairman: E.A. Evans, C.I.Mech.E., M.I.A.E. A meeting of the Lubrication Group will be held at the Royal Society of Arts, John Street, W.C.2, at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd when the following paper will be presented: HIGH TENSION PISTON RINGS by W.A. Wilson, A.M.I.A.E. (Chief Technical Representative, Hepworth & Grandage, Ltd. Bradford) Tea and light refreshments will be served from 5 p.m. Synopsis of Paper Present day changes of piston ring design, cylinder lubrication, lubricating oil viscosity, etc. - The associated components and factors which naturally affect piston rings. - The desirable conditions which should exist in an engine to obtain good bore and piston ring wear. The manufacture of cast-to-form high tension piston rings. - Gas sealing efficiency of piston rings and ring flutter. - Oil consumption and its control. - Bore lubrication. - Piston ring testing. - The running-in period and the advantages of coated rings. - High output engines. - Ring sticking and ring packing and mechanical methods of overcoming them. Conclusion - giving some comparative cylinder bore wear results on engines using normal technique and after conversion, in line with the points contained in the paper. ----------o0o---------- | ||
