BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. EY/RD. c. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} Y7720 EFC5/T30.1.29. 1-3/4 VALUE BALLAST RESISTANCE We have now received from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} a verbal report to the effect that the 1¾ value ballast resistance is a cure for the very slight misfiring at high speeds in some circumstances which he had observed with the double value ballast resistance. We now definitely recommend that the 1¾ value ballast be forthwith instructed for standard in place of the double value, a course to which you have already agreed, subject to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'s report being satisfactory and provided we could show, as we have done, that the heating effect on the primary coil winding is quite reasonable. Would you therefore please arrange to instruct this 1¾ value ballast resistance. The specification of the wire is 35" length of gauge 32 S.W.G. pure nickel wire. Will EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} kindly return the two ballast resistances of this value which we loaned to him for the purpose of comparison. A production test will be issued in due course.
