He/Ud.6/AVR.2.33 contd. -18- FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF R.R. COMBINED PUMP AND INJECTOR. (1) Test of a new pump barrel in which there is one suction port and no annulus at suction port. This has been constructed so that it may be tested in two positions in the pump body. (a) with hole opposite supply pipe (position 1) and (b) with hole diametrically opposite to (a) (position 4). The purpose of these tests is to examine the injection period, it being thought that the omission of the annulus may materially reduce this. If this hope is not realised but if the injection period is not increased and the pump lag and delivery characteristics are unaffected, it may still be advisable to omit the annulus and thus simplify construction of the pump barrel. (2) In order to test out the special features of the pump mentioned in He/Ud.7/K76.1.33, an adaptor has been prepared to replace the injector so that a fuel line may be connected to the pump and a Bosch type injector used so that its discharge, lag and injection period characteristics may be directly compared with those of a Bosch pump. (3) Test of a pump plunger having a circular relief passage in place of the square hole used at present. (4) Test of pump and injector on the C.I. engine. | ||
