LONDON, W.1.

For the attention of Mr. Brookes.

Dear Mr. Brookes,

I have been endeavouring to get our people to start on the anodic treatment of RR.53 alloy, with a view to getting it applied to our pistons.

I did this more or less on the strength of the information that you gave me which was that the firm tackling the job were not doing it thoroughly, were not well equipped technically, and in your opinion would not succeed in getting any results within a reasonable time.

Some of our people have apparently been in communication with the Alumilite Co. Ltd., Thames Factory, Rainville Road, Hammersmith, London, W.6. independently, and as one might expect this Company have given them the impression that they are going along very well on the job. They have informed our people that they can treat 14% Silicon, 10% copper, and 10% copper 5% Silicon alloys quite satisfactorily but they cannot treat the R.R. range as yet.

In order to get the job moving I should like to have the views which you expressed to me in writing, together with any information which may have come to hand since our last conversation. If you have changed your mind and think that they are now going along with the job pretty well and we may get some results in a few weeks, well and good, and of course it will not be worth our while starting up in this case.
