1015 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}7/MH.{M. Huckerby} 8th. June, 1939. British Timken Limited, Cheston Road, Aston, BIRMINGHAM, 7. For the attention of Mr. E.H.Doughty. Dear Sirs, In view of what you told us on the telephone that the outer race of your bearings were case hardened steel, we have kept half the outer race which failed for examination at this Works. We are returning to you today the half which includes the fracture. We should be glad if you will let us know of what material you make these outer races, and what heat treatment they have, as from a cursory examination of the fracture we do not think the strength of the core is as high as it could be. As regards sending you a drawing of the application of this bearing, we would rather discuss this with you at our works, and suggest that when you have had an opportunity of examining the broken race, you should come up to Derby so that we can decide what to do. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
