Dear Mr. Robotham,

Many thanks for your letter of 10th November.

We will let you have the chassis number of the Bentley to which the tyres were incorrectly fitted.

Regarding the last paragraph of your letter, we would not recommend a wider rim. In the first place a standard rim wider than 4.00 is not obtainable in the 17" diamater. Special rims could probably be made or a special tyre designed to suit some standard rim. However, the 4.00 rim is now the full width of the tread on the tyre and if a wider rim is used I am afraid that the flexing of the tyre would be affected and that we will run into troubles with the bead and also possibly with the carcass fabric. We would rather try to obtain stability by a further change in the construction of the tyre. At present we have 6 plies without a breaker and we would like to put a breaker in this tyre. This will increase the weight very slightly but if you would like to try these tyres out, we would be very glad to build a set and send them to you for trial.

As a matter of interest, I would like to know to what pressures you are inflating the test set of tyres. It might be that something could be done by varying the pressures/
