35-EX. PHANTOM III.

REAR AXLE.

All the parts removed from the axle when the thick half shafts were fitted have been returned for your examination.

The lift in the pinion was due to movement of the front outer race which had worn the thrust washer as shown on sketch attached. The ball bearing itself was in good condition. The new roller bearing was not a good enough fit on the nose of the pinion. This was therefore knurled, where it had previously been copper plated, and the washer reduced as shown on sketch to give a slight pinch on the inner race.

Both half shafts were twisted, the left hand 20° and the right hand 15° approximately.
