RE. ALUMINIUM PISTONS.

With reference to your memo. to Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}11/M30.9.19, we agree that the present position of the aluminium pistons is most acute, as explained to you this morning.

At the same time, I do not think there is any doubt as regards the policy laid down at the last conference in London.

The point is, we have not been able to obtain commercially, cars which can fulfil these conditions.

[Handwritten: Chiefly,] The pistons which we are requiring from the works are pistons to the latest instructions, to replace pistons on chassis on test which do not fulfil these conditions.

Although [handwritten: only] a few of the latest type clearance pistons have been supplied, our experience certainly confirms the fact that we do not appear to be able to obtain [strikethrough: the condition of] [handwritten above: al-] cars which will meet the conditions as laid down in the conference, which was explained to Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} in my memo. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/F30.9.19, copy of which I attach.
