To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C. CHATEAUROUX. 9.8.39. REPORT OF ACCIDENT TO BENTLEY I4.B.V. On the 8th August 1939 at about 12.15 p.m. I was driving towards Issoudun at high speed, the road being perfectly straight and clear of traffic. Suddenly, a car emerged from behind a hedge which concealed a side cart track leading to a farm, and started to cross the main road. I applied the brakes but there was a fine sprinkling of rain on the road, and the car started to skid. I therefore, had to reduce the amount of braking and it became clear that if I continued as I was going I should have run into the car in front and probably injured its occupant. However, I pulled into the grass verge on my right, the car struck a tree, continued into the ditch, and rolled over on its side. P.H. Rose. | ||
