To CJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 4457 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG12.2.26. 4457 78430 STEERING WOBBLES ON MR. SALAMANCA'S CAR. We think it is probable that Mr. Salamanca would re-gain confidence in the steering on his car if a new type steering was fitted. From his letter our impression is that he has lost confidence in the steering so that any shocks transmitted to the steering wheel gives him the impression that the high speed wobble is starting to build up. Anyone who has experienced a real high speed wobble can appreciate this feeling. Our view is that he is not now getting wobbles but that the road shocks which he receives on the steering wheel over a bad road, gives him the impression that he may do so. Fitting a new steering will not prevent high speed wobbles, but it will greatly reduce the shocks received on the steering wheel when travelling over bad roads. As regards the other remarks in his letter. We know from actual experience that the Cadillac and the Hispano are liable to high speed wobble. With reference to the Daimler. Mr. F.W. Lanchester who is Chief Consulting Engineer for that firm, has just taken out a patent for a hydraulic damper device to prevent high speed steering wobbles. We should assume from this that they are having trouble in this respect. We have also seen Daimler cars going along the road which have had an insipient wobble. We quite realise that examples of cars contd :- | ||
