X1166 To Ex from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} BY HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} SFT{Mr Swift} Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}2/WG{Mr Gill - Financial Director}18.8.36 PHANTOM III. D.W.S.JACKS Arising out of the serious position in which we are placed due to failure of D.W.S.Jacks on P.III Chassis - the Test Department pulled down no less than 18 chassis the week ending August 8th due to faulty arms, we have taken up this matter very strongly with Mr. Sessions, and attached is copy of a communication received from him this morning on the subject. Will SFT{Mr Swift} kindly note the concluding paragraph. I have asked Stores to advise SFT{Mr Swift} immediately the initial delivery is to hand. If Ex can spare any of the old type rams now in his possession, possibly he will arrange to return them to Stores as and when occasion permits, and let us know. Ex will note that Mr Sessions is suggesting the Jack which failed on Chassis No. 3-AZ-44 at Messrs. Abbotts Works at Brosley, may have failed due to running in to some obstruction.
