We have also carried out tests running bearings with a mean oil entering temperature of 100°C. The average load at which failure occurs under these conditions is no higher than when oil is supplied to the bearing at 30°C though the mean running temperature of the bearing is increased by about 20°C.

We have also been conducting some tests to determine the effect of reduced oil pressure on bearing life. Our tests so far shew that oil pressure can be reduced from 25lbs/sq.in. to 5 lbs/sq.in. without appreciably affecting the life of the bearings.
