1293 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.16/JH. 25th March, 1937. Messrs. Gordon Armstrong Patent Suspension Co.Ltd., Waltham Works, Beverley, E.Yorks. Dear Mr. Armstrong, Thank you for your letter and the enclosed sketch. I am arranging for one of the 2 bellows control dampers to be returned to you. At the moment we should like to retain the second damper in order that indication diagrams may be taken. I suggest that if you fit up one damper to your new ingenious suggestion it should be sufficient to gain a good deal of experience. Personally I should be very frightened about this scheme owing to dirt. It appears that the sleeve would have difficulty in rotating due to the contact of the rebound valve and bump valve spring. The lower cup and the sleeve however could be made in separate pieces with a practically point central contact between them. The maximum bellow stroke that we use is 0.175". We do not like the bumpy feel of the control on the rod type damper. This is quite impossible when the damper is working. I am still hoping that we shall not use the bellows control if a really light operation rod control can be developed. | ||
