For the attention of Mr. Leslie.

Dear Mr. Leslie,

I understand from Mr. Bogg that you are having some difficulty with the gland in the hand-control mechanism.

It is quite evident that these glands have been put in without the vulcanised rubber being removed from the canvas. If this rubber was filed away and the canvas left bare, I do not think you would find any signs of binding.

If this is not done, then the rubber generally becomes sticky and more or less fixes itself onto the spindle. I have asked the Patents Company to do this operation on the further gland packings that are sent to you.

I quite agree with you that it would be better if there was more rubber in there so that the pressure would be more even.

Yours sincerely,

p.p. THE GORDON ARMSTRONG
PATENT SUSPENSION CO. LTD.
