SEQUENCE STARTER SCHEME NO.1. X7630

Further to our EFC1/T14.6.27 (to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} only), we sent to R.{Sir Henry Royce} a memo EFC3/T11.6.27 (copy attached), and have received back from him a note RL/M16.6.27, copy also attached.

Hereby we now cancel our previous instructions EFC3/T25.1.27, and instruct as follows :-

It is decided that we should experiment with the 5° spiral with actuator box operated switch which for which purpose we already have a complete motor in readiness. The only alteration that may have to be made to this motor would be changing back the field windings from two series two parallel, to the ordinary winding, but it can be decided upon or otherwise as to the necessity of that change after our preliminary experiments on the rig.

It has been arranged with RD. to look into the question of the application of this No.1 scheme motor and gear to the EAC.7 chassis (14-EX) engine.

Our proposal is that we experiment with this 5° spiral with actuator box operated switch without rubber buffer (in the first instance) on the rig, and for this purpose will RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} proceed to have this arrangement completed upon the rig for our test.

The additional rubber buffer scheme should be in readiness to add to our rig after preliminary trials have been made, and upon the results of these tests we must decide as to whether the scheme either without or with rubber buffer is suitable for application to the chassis.

Owing to the fact that this chassis will otherwise be without a starter, it is necessary to proceed with this work to give us a reasonable time for the preliminary experiments and changes consequent thereon.
