RE BATTERIES & DYNAMOS 40/50 HP & 20 HP. CHASSIS.

-------------------------------------------------

Your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC{N. R. Chandler}9/EW25.11.25.

My experience goes to show that the dynamo on the 20 HP. gives insufficient output to maintain batteries with sufficient reserve during Autumn and Winter running. Aartificial charging during these months is general.

When inspecting a 20 HP. I always check the charge shown on the ammeter and if same be below standard we dismantle the dynamo and clean and rebed brushes. This attention has to be given to quite 35% of the 20 HP's in my area

I have only come across one case of loss of electrolytebut this was due to a leaking cell. I know of no case of loss through overcharging.

If batteries were carried on running board as of yore, there would, in my opinion, be less loss of electrolyte consequent upon being away from the heat of the exhaust. In this position they would surely receive better and more frequent attention and inspection at the hands of drivers.

Kindly see my Memorandum No.8803, FBS{F. Bell-Scott}2/IN26.11.25.
