It must be remembered that one of the chief difficulties we have in coming to a decision as regards the new carburetter, is the fact that the present standard carburetter is exceedingly good. There have been many attempts in the past to displace it, and eventually in the end the original carburetter has worn out on merit. Our service complaints on carburetters are practically nil. The work which has been done on carburetters lately has brought out one or two important points. For a general utility car we should always vote for a single carburetter because of its simplicity and reliability. With two carburetters, if we attempt to take advantage of the ramming to any extent, we cannot avoid induction roar. When we have reduced this to reasonable proportions, the advantage then in the two carburetters is that you can work with a lower depression because it is easier to get good distribution with the two carburetters compared with one single. Against that, however, the adjustment of two carburetters especially for slow running, is very difficult. If the carburetters are disturbed, or the controls disturbed, it needs expert adjustment in order to get the car running properly again. For our general products I do not think we shall ever improve on the single expanding carburetter. The present one which is being developed promises to be sufficiently good to warrant changing over to this type of carburetter on all our cars. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
