To CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. WOF. c. to PN.{Mr Northey} CWB. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X457 R1/M27.8.25. STEERING, AND CWB. X.8430 X.457 X.4048. The views of CWB. are quite sound, and several of us have already been thinking in the same direction. Regarding drastic alterations, we have thought that it is absolutely necessary to first make the best of what we have in hand. We could not consider very drastic alterations in a moment even if we knew what to make. Regarding the Lancia Lambda and Zizaire special types of front axle, these also have been under consideration, but it has been reported in the technical journals that with this scheme the fault is equally as bad, though we should have expected it to be quite different. Mr. Hardy suggested we obtained one of the Lancia cars, as it is a car with a good reputation, so that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} could compare it with our 20 HP. We were expecting every day to get some information which would tell us whether this is worth while, but so far as we can see, it is very desirable to obtain a Lancia Lambda - either by borrowing, or a secondhand one, or a new one. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} could then test and shew whether any drastic alterations would be advisable in the future. In the meantime we think we have got over all the troubles except the risk of high speed wobbles due to out-of-balance tyres, or to the use of balloon tyres, and we think we shall be able to minimise these by keeping the front dampers rather more effective than in the past, contd :- | ||
