If W. give a report they should state that it was "so far as could be ascertained from an external examination only."

------

A general discussion took place at the beginning of the conference in which the following instructions were issued:-

(1) That the Manager of every department at W. must try to make a minimum reduction of 50% in their staffs, and that they should report progress in this to Mr Wormald, by Saturday morning, 6th May. This list of economies will be sent by Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} to CJ.

(2) Owing to the present Lock-out and the urgent necessity for production as soon as possible after this crisis is over, officials at Works were told that it would probably be impossible for them to be spared after the resumption of work, and that they should take holidays now, except those few who are now busy on urgent Goshawk matters.

Arrangements for holidays should be sent to Mr.Wormald forthwith, who would forward them on to CJ.

(3) It was agreed that CJ's letter calling for statements from heads of departments with regard to the accounts for the last six months of last financial year, and for the next six months, and economies proposed, should lie in abeyance until the present Lock-out is over.

(4) Instruction Book.

That the tyre pressures should be put in the new Instruction Book for Goshawk.

(5) Safety of Documents.

All Chiefs were asked to consider what would happen if a fire occurred at W. so far as the safety of their valuable, or irreplaceable documents are concerned, and to make necessary provision for their safety.

(6) GOSHAWK and 10,000 Miles Test.

He. stated that this test on the whole had been most successful, especially as far as the engine was concerned. There were eight special points discussed which will probably necessitate fresh design or material, such as the Steering Box; Shock absorbers, new type of joint; Spring shackles were badly; Differential wore badly; two Front Springs broke, although the material for same was good.
