DAMPER CONTROL.
B.111, B.50 and WRAITH 80.

When trying the gearbox of 8-B-5 yesterday, I noticed that, even in the front seats, there was discomfort when travelling slowly on indifferent roads when the damper control was set hard. It was, therefore necessary to move the control to soft whenever the car slowed up to secure maximum comfort. It appears from this that some degree of pressure rise with velocity would be advantageous, and we suggest that experiments are made to determine whether a kinetic energy restriction will do what is required. This could be tried out with temporary apparatus on the bench.

We understand that it is not desirable to carry the automatic rise above half way up the range i.e. to 15 lbs. per sq. in., as full damping at the highest speeds is too much on some roads.
