Your Memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW of the 27/5/35 was received today.

We have received the second batch of rivets. We made enquiries at the Customs, but no trace of the previous ones was found. We shall dismantle the Gearbox & Clutch, and fit the spring drive centre so that it can be tried out.

We examined the connecting rods on Sunday the 26th. We enclose a sketch showing the fitting of same, which in our opinion is the right-way.

With the exception of traces of white metal in the oil, which we examine each day, the engine is running better than it has done since coming out. We are extremely pleased with the smoothness of the engine, after getting the right damper load, i.e. 20 lbs, with cork friction washers and light springs.
The Valves with .004" clearance are not reliable as with .006" (exhaust). There is a tendancy to stretch, two have increased to .0055". We did not have this with the .006" setting.

While on the subject of Valves, we can say definately that the Valves with the Stelite seatings are in a better condition than those not treated. The Stelite seatings keep free of carbon deposit, whereas the non-treated one can scrape off a very fine carbon deposit.
This means that with the stelite seatings, there is a metal to metal contact, which should result with a cooler Valve. The carbon film on the non-treated valves insulates the heat.

We note your remarks re visit to Paris on Monday the 3rd June. We hope the Car will be running and if so, will meet you at the Show-rooms early Tuesday morning.
