SECRET. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/JH.5.10.40. re Gun Installation Section. We think it might be advantageous to outline the progress of the Gun Installation Section up to date. 1. Type B.D. Naval Gun - on Pedestal Mounting. With the modification to the foresight which will be issued on Monday next, we shall have completed all designs outstanding, up to date. The revised ejector shield is being dealt with by Ve. We like the suggestion that any future work we do on this job should be confined to the mounting only, the division line being at the trunnions. We have suffered delays, and fouls and inefficiency have resulted, because the Gun Section do not make and issue finished schemes - a policy which has been part of the Aero & Chassis Sections for many years. 2. Nash & Thompson Power Mounting. The L.M. & S.R. have all the details which they are required to make, with the exception of the Gun Crackets, and accompanying parts. These will be issued in a few days. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} has a list of parts which N. & T. are expecting us to produce, and this should be given to the L.M. & S. We have asked the L.M. & S.R. for a list of their stock and standard materials. When we receive this we should give to them an equivalent material from their list for each N. & T. part they have to produce. We suggest that they should receive an official order from us to carry out the work, and it should be pointed out that at this stage they are merely producing parts for us and that the Naval Authorities need not be consulted. They have been told that the assembly of the first turret will be carried out by N. & T. for us. 3. Type A.A. 13.2 m/m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} M.G. We have transmitted to Ve. the general criticisms of this gun in Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/JH.14.9.40. and cannot proceed any further until we receive a revised gun. P.T.O. | ||
