We are enclosing a copy of the report on this body which we have sent to Messrs Hooper & Co. The writer has spent several days at Derby Working on the body. Our general impression is that those parts which we have actually designed ourselves, ( the main structure and mounting) are fairly satisfactory, but that those features which we left to Hoopers to work out in detail are in many cases spoiled by lack of mechanical perfection. The screens are the chief example of this. We propose visiting Messrs Barker & Co. on Monday with a view to eliminating the defects which have shewn up on this first body. An allowance must be made for the rush which has been made to have the body ready by the time specified. On the whole we feel that the results are quite satisfactory for a first attempt, and that we should profit by our experience. The complete coachwork, including wings, tool-box steps, instruments and horns weighs practically 6 cwts. Normally, Hoopers would not be able to make such a body weighing much less than 9 cwts. This body is 2 cwts less than that on the blue car 10.EX. in spite of the fact that it has many more features,- extra decks, concealed hood and rear screen. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
