DN. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FM. ) FROM HDY.{William Hardy} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Ld. ORIGINAL HDY{William Hardy}4/N25.1.33. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. TYPE DAMPERS. SPRING LOADED GLAND. Although the type of spring loaded gland shewn on N. sch. 3634. is that used on the Phantom and 20/25. front, we now think that the gland used on the 20/25. rear damper should be used on the J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. dampers, being simpler, and without a joint that must be oiltight. There appears to us to be no necessity for the extra bearing area given by the extension of the bush used in the former scheme, as the shaft is a good deal larger in diameter than that of our present dampers, and in any case the area of the inner bearing is less than that of the outer without the extension. In view of this we are sending herewith N. scheme 3659. which shews the modified gland. HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
