R.{Sir Henry Royce} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/W6.12.32. WORK IN PROGRESS - 6. 12. 32. (1) PEREGRINE CARBURETTER & STEERING. Derby want to lower the carburetter 1.5", which causes it to foul the steering box in the present position. They also say they would like the J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 2. size air valve on the Peregrine, which still further increases the foul. To deal with this it is proposed to run the steering box into the frame side channel, and bring the spindle out through the channel somewhat in the style of the existing P. 2., so that only the tube of the steering column passes the carburetter. We have looked at this, and by rocking the spring over to 4.5º as suggested by R.{Sir Henry Royce}, introducing probably .25º" negative camber, and slightly shortening the pendulum lever (about .5) it appears that it can be done with advantage to the geometry, as compared with the present two outstanding disadvantages. (2) BENSPORT BRAKE GEAR. We have nearly completed this. The pedal stops and pull springs are now being done, and this is the last job, as far as we know. (3) BENSPORT EXHAUST SYSTEM. EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} has got a good deal of data from Derby as to exhaust systems, and is about to set it out. (4) AUTOMATIC DAMPER CONTROL. We are now proposing to modify the J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. pedals support to correspond with that recently done for Peregrine, and in doing so, shall investigate the question of the automatic damper control cylinder which has to be made to miss the pedal supporting beam. (5) WIDER BRAKE SHOES. With the two spoke wire wheels we can get wider brake drums on both P. 2. and 25HP. We have schemed those for P. 2. front brakes, increasing the width of shoe from 1.75 to 2.5". (1) | ||
