Re Sunbeam Piston.

With reference to the Sunbeam piston which Seligmanns, of Glasgow, sent in, I cannot quite see the reasoning that has brought about the construction. A great fault I should find in it is that the piston pin is much too high, there being no wearing surface above the pin, and, therefore, the upper end of the piston would, or should, wear itself slack in time. The piston is not particularly light for its size.

One good feature is the substantial gudgeon pin which is, as we thought ours was, ample in diameter and hollow.

We do not think there is anything remarkably good about the piston, in fact, in a larger size engine we should have expected trouble from the fact that there are only two rings to hold the gases, and we have always found the joints of these
