SS.{S. Smith} CROSS STEERING TUBE. X7425

Herewith we send N. sch. 2884. giving the 1500 lbs. spring on the cross steering tube ball joint, as requested in HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/LG23429.

It will be noticed that we have a rectangular section for the wire. This is because it gives us the correct stress, and we are not quite certain what can be obtained. Should it only be possible to obtain conventional sizes, for instance such as .312 square, then we suggest that this should be done. On the other hand if it is necessary to obtain a special wire there seems no reason why we should not get the one indicated. .312 would either be slightly too highly stressed, or would have to have a slightly less load.
