The A.C. Silencer was designed for a 6-litre engine i.e. 30% smaller than the Phantom. In spite of this its capacity is greater than all except one, of the silencers that we have evolved.

The direct tuning method is undoubtedly most useful in quickly ascertaining the approximate capacity and position of the most efficient resonance chambers and eliminates a lot of 'cut and try' work. We are also utilising the same method on the exhaust system with advantageous results.

Further experience should enable us to establish some general rules to assist design in the future.

We believe it is a fact, however, that the A.C. Co. of America, who manufacture 90% of the intake silencers in the States only get finality in their results by trial and error.
